Overview

Users need to login to use MIKE OPERATIONS and the login is the same as for MIKE Workbench. The login form is shown during the start-up of MIKE OPERATIONS.

Note: If this is your first time using MIKE OPERATIONS or MIKE Workbench and you have not set up any users you can log in as the default administrative user. The user name is admin and the password is dssadmin.

Login parameters consist of the following:

Server connection which is an alias for various database parameters. To define server connections, click the “Setup…” button; see Manage server connections
User name and password
The name of the workspace within the server connection

Select “Always use the same user name and password” to have the user name and password field pre-filled when starting MIKE OPERATIONS. This is convenient if you always use the same user name and password.

Select “Always login with the above settings” to perform an automatic login with the entered parameters. This is convenient if you always log in to the same workspace with the same user name and password.

Click on the “Setup…” button on the Login form to open the Connection Manager. The Connection Manager displays the existing connections and has the following possibilities. The “Add…” button for adding a new connection. The “Edit...” button for editing the selected connection. The “Delete” button for deleting the selected connection.

Add or edit a server connection¶

Click on the “Add…” or “Edit…” button on the Connection Manager to open the connection Setup menu. The following parameters must be specified: A server connection name. This name is used in Connection combo-box on the Login form. The type of database. The name of the server. The port used for communication with the server. The default is 5432 for PostgreSQL, and 1521 for Oracle. The name of the database. If the Database Type is SQLite, Server and Port are automatically filled and cannot be changed. Additionally, the database field can be filled by browsing for the database file.

MIKE OPERATIONS User Interface¶

MIKE OPERATIONS has an IDE-style user interface (UI) where all windows reside under a single parent window, referred to as the Shell.

The Shell contains dockable and collapsible child windows, tabbed windows and splitters for the resizing of child windows.

There are several types of docking windows (Views) available as follows: Time Series View, Thresholds, System Status, Table View, Chart View, Document View and Legend. Each of these Views can be docked at different locations around the map, which always remains open.

The default window’s docking configuration is displayed below, but the user may change this.

The MIKE OPERATIONS User Interface

Windows are rearranged by clicking on the tab or title bar of a window and dragging the window to a new location.

Dragging the title bar, will move all tabs of the window. Dragging the tab, will only move the selected tab.

When dragging begins, a guide diamond will appear.

The right hand side of the MIKE OPERATIONS user interface contains a navigation pane for selecting the items of the model.

The navigation pane can be shown as a List View or a Tree View, depending on the user setting ‘Use Tree Navigation’ specified in the configuration of MIKE OPERATIONS.

‘Zoom to selection’ will zoom to the first selected item on the map.

The Quick Access Toolbar provides quick access to the internal Help and to the refresh functionality.

Ribbon commands can be added to the Quick Access Toolbar by right clicking on the ribbon command and selecting ‘Add to Quick Access Toolbar’.

Commands added to the Quick Access Toolbar will be available at the next startup.

Right-click the command and select ’Remove from Quick Access Toolbar’ to remove the command from the Quick Access Toolbar.

Map¶

The map window of MIKE OPERATIONS is the focal point of MIKE OPERATIONS. The map contains the following functionality:

Zoom Slider The Zoom Slider allows the user to zoom in and out on the map. ‘Zoom to extent’ will zoom to the extent of the layers displayed. ‘Toggle Box Zoom’ will allow the user to mark the area to zoom into.
Time Slider The Time Slider is for going back and forward in time. The ‘Play’ button is for playing the entire period automatically. The Time of Forecast (ToF) is shown above the Time Slider. In brackets, the actual selected time relative to Time of Forecast (TOF – 1H : 1 hour before Time of Forecast) appears. In case a model setup is not included, TOF refers to the start of the selected observation period in the View.
Context Menu The context menu is displayed when the user right clicks the map. Info will display information about the selected layer. Background Map type selects the background map type. Favorite background maps can also be selected here, if maps are saved as favorites in the MIKE Workbench. Please refer to the Workbench online help for information. Zoom in zooms one step in on the position of the mouse cursor. Zoom out zooms one step out on the position of the mouse cursor. Center map centers the map to the position of the mouse cursor. Previous Zoom zooms back to the previous zoom level and map position. Bookmarks saves and loads map bookmarks. A map bookmark will save the current location and zoom of the map, so that it can be loaded when needed. Show Coordinates toggles the x, y coordinates on and off. Coordinates are shown in the Source Coordinate System specified in General Settings. Copy Coordinates Copies the coordinates of the point clicked to the clipboard. New allows the user to create point features on the position of the mouse cursor. This goes for Feature Types without feature classes only. Edit Layer allows the user to edit static feature layers. Associations allows the user to change the time series associations of the station.
Map Tool Tip The Map Tool Tip shows information about the station, reach or catchment above which the mouse is hovering. The header displays the feature type image with the id and name of the station, reach or catchment. Below the separator, the value of the current date and time (time slider) is displayed for the threshold time series of the feature type.

Ribbon¶

The ribbon contains access to almost all functionality in MIKE OPERATIONS.

The home ribbon is divided into groups of buttons. Each group can contain a Caption Button for setting additional functionality.

Configuration Group The configuration group contains a drop down for selecting the configuration and a dropdown for selecting themes. Note that the themes dropdown menu is hidden until Themes have been created. In Data & Maps, the simulation selection is the simulation showing the latest time of forecast. In Scenario mode, selection refers to the baseline simulation.
Observation Periods When more than one observation period has been configured, the ribbon will display an observation period navigation panel for selecting observation periods. In the observation period navigation panel, an observation period can be selected. Observation periods are configured in the backend view.
Feature Type Groups Feature type groups show all the active feature types of the configuration. The group that each feature type belongs to is specified in the Feature Type setup. When clicking the ‘Caption’ button (lower right corner of the feature type group), a dialog for specifying the active threshold time series and threshold annotation visibility in the Chart View is displayed. Threshold Annotation Visibility for a Feature Type can have 3 states. Unchecked – No threshold annotations are shown. Checked – all threshold annotations are shown in the chart. Indeterminate – Only thresholds in the time series value range are displayed. The default value is Indeterminate. Note that Threshold Annotations are saved as user settings. Views¶

Views are all dockable windows that can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen.

They can even be placed on separate screens.

From the View tab of the context menu, all windows can be disabled or shown.

Reset layout will place all views in their default location.

Time Series The Time Series View shows the time series of the selected station (point feature), reach (line feature) or catchment (polygon feature). When selecting a grid column by clicking a cell, the context menu of the column can be shown by right clicking a cell in the column. Edit Time Series A time series can be changed directly from MIKE OPERATIONS if ‘Enable Edit’ has been selected in the time series configuration. Remove Time Series This will remove the time series from the current session until the ’Refresh’ button is selected or MIKE OPERATIONS is restarted.
Thresholds The Threshold View shows the threshold values for the selected station (point feature), reach (line feature) or catchment (polygon feature).
System Status System Status shows the status in scenario mode when creating, deleting and running scenarios.
Table View (Navigation) Table View shows all items of the selected feature type and the values of the threshold time series on the specified date and time. The actual threshold symbol is included in front of each item. Each tab in the Table View contains a Feature Type. Only Feature Types selected in the ribbon are shown. The Table View also contains a field for selecting the filter groups that must be shown. Filter Groups are created in General Setup. Select features by clicking a row in the Table View. More features can be selected and displayed in the chart view by using holding the ‘Shift’ and ‘Control’ buttons while selecting. Features can be added to new or existing charts, using the context menu of the Table View.	![]
Chart View The Chart View contains charts containing time series for the selected station (point feature), reach (line feature) or catchment (polygon feature). The Chart View has a annotations for: Time of Forecast (vertical red dashed line). Current date time (vertical solid line). Threshold (horizontal dashed lines). Right clicking the Chart View, will display the context menu of the chart. Show Legend Show/hide the legend of the chart. Remove time series When selecting a time series in the legend, the time series can be removed/hide from the current session. The time series will be hidden until the Refresh button is clicked or MIKE OPERATIONS is restarted. Statistics Make statistics chart based on the current time series of the chart. Copy to Clipboard Copy time series values of the chart as an image or table to the clipboard. When copying to a table, right click the time series in the legend or the chart, to selected chart series. To copy every chart series in the chart, right click the chart area.
Document The Document View shows the document for the selected point feature, line feature or polygon feature. Only PDF documents are shown. All other document types are shown as links. Specify the document on each feature in the configuration.
Legend The Legend View shows the legend for the layers including grids. The context menu contains the following functionality. Info Will display an information window with attributes of the layer. Layers and Grids – Add Add a user feature layer or raster layer to the map. Layers and Grids – Remove Removes an added user feature layer. Note that layers of the configuration cannot be removed. Layers and Grids – Edit Layer Ediy static feature layers. Layers and Grids – Load Loads a saved layer template adding the layers of the template to the map. Layers and Grids – Delete Deletes a layer template. Layers and Grids – Save Saves added user layers to a template, so that the template can be applied (loaded) at any time. Saving the template includes saving the symbology of the user layers. Change the symbology using the properties window of the layer. Move up Moves the layer up in the list of layers on the map. Move down Moves the layer down in the list of layers on the map. Hide Hides a configured feature layer. Zoom to layer Zooms to the selected layer. Reset symbology Resets the saved symbology of the layer for either workspace or private user settings. Set as default symbology Saves the current layer symbology as default symbology. Choose between saving to workspace (affects all users) or private user settings. The symbology can be changed using the Properties window when selecting the layer in the legend control. Properties Show the properties window for the selected layer. The legend control now also supports changing Layer symbology using the Properties view of the layer.
Properties The Properties View shows the properties of the layers selected in the legend control. In scenario mode, the Properties view will show the properties of model objects associated with the selected feature for the current scenario. In scenario mode, the properties of a model object can be changed so that simulations will use the specified properties. Available properties and which properties can be changed is fixed and specified by the current version of the model adapter.
Statistics The Statistics window shows statistics results from analysis performed with R-Statistics. Refer to the section about configuring Statistics on a feature type. Two different types of statistics can be shown in the statistics window: Skill Scores. Displays the skill score results in a table. Goodness of Fit. Goodness of Fit measures are displayed in a chart.
