Map View

The map View is the central menu for displaying Thematic and Station layers.

The map view can be changed by zooming in and out or use the pan button to move the viewed area of the map from the navigation section of the Map menu. Zooming in and out is helpful to obtain a better view of specific locations, in particular if there are many station layers each including many stations.

View station networks

One of the principal purposes of MIKE INFO is to view and analyse data records from the monitoring station network. Viewing station data records stored in the database is done by selecting the Map menu.

Select Stations in the Map view

Select a station using the Select button to show details about the station. When the Select button is selected (highlighted) you can either click on a station or drag a rectangle to select multiple stations. When stations have been selected, they appear highlighted with a blue circle.

Station details (e.g. time series) are displayed in the areas to the right of the Map View as long as the stations are selected. To unselect, click on a location in the Map View where no station is located and the station information will disappear from the list.

Thematic layers and Station layers to be viewed in the Map View is selected in the Appearance section of the Map menu ribbon.

Click on the Layers drop down list to select the layers for display in the Map View.

Click on the Stations drop down list to select the station layers to be displayed in the map.

Filter stations in the Map View

By default all station layers and all stations of a station layer in the database are? displayed in the map view.

Filtering of stations based on the station layer and the locations of the stations can be defined in the Station list in the Appearance section of the Map menu ribbon.

Clicking on the Stations drop down list opens a dialog for selecting and filtering of stations layers according to:

  • Country: In which e.g. the Country name attribute of the GIS layer specified in the Countries and basins settings can be used to filter according to country;

  • Basin: In which e.g. the Sub-basin name attribute of the GIS layer specified in the Countries and basins settings can be used to filter according to sub-basin;

  • Station layers: In which the Station layers are selected.

Show Attribute of layers

Attribute of a layer can be shown by selecting the layer in the legend (click on the layer title) and click on the Attribute button in the Information section of the map menu ribbon.

The Attribute table will be displayed in a separate attribute tab.

Click on the Edit button to:

  • Edit Attribute information;

  • Add a new attribute;

  • Delete an attribute;

  • Select attribute information to be viewed in the Info Tool.

Show attribute information using Identity button

Click on Identity button to quickly see attribute information of the active layer at specific locations of the layer.

If the Identity tool is used on a multi-temporal raster file the displayed information will also include a graph showing the temporal development curve of the raster values at the selected location.

Using the Measure tool

Click on the Measure tool to calculate user defined distances and areas directly from the map window. The Measure tool can also be used to measure the area and perimeter of polygon layers.

  • Click in Measure line to draw a line on the Map and measure its distance.

  • Click in Measure Area to draw a polygon on the Map and measure its area and perimeter.

  • Click in Measure feature to click on polygon feature and return its area and perimeter (NOTE: Only available if the active layer is a polygon feature).

Save a Map

A map can be saved and quickly displayed in its own map view tab. This is useful for presenting many maps as an “atlas”.

  • Click on the Data menu.

  • Click on the Save button and select Map.

  • Specify the name of the map and click save.

View saved Maps

Saved maps can be quickly accessed and displayed in a separate Map view.

  • Click on the View menu.

  • Enable Map. It will insert the map data tab in the right hand side window and list all saved maps.

  • Right click on the map and select Open.

The saved map will be display in a separate Map view.
